I mostly use Opera -- in which shift-click opens the link in a new tab.
I also use FF for some sites. I took a quick look for an equivalent mechanism but didn't find one.

I looked a couple of times for a single add-on to "Make FF work like Opera"; with no joy.
There are a few that add back individual opera features, but never the ones I most miss.
In general, I'm too lazy to search through zillions of add-ons. I've got Adblock Plus and Privacy Badger and not much else.

Middle mouse button will open links in a new tab in FF by default.
