Through customer support jobs, I ended up working in databases. I went from self-taught SQL developer to database architect and have recently had cause to add Perl to my repertoire. Prior to this, I have only dabbled in scripting languages, though I can write some mean PL/SQL logic paths.
I'm learning Perl briskly enough after about 5 months that I'm usually embarrassed by anything I wrote more than two weeks ago. Which may sound frustrating, but beats the heck out of forever remaining secure in the lie that my garbage scripts are awesome.
