You can keep a check on number of updates by counting using a counter variable

 our $updates;
sub Updated {
   $updates++;
}
sub DoSomething {
    ...
    Updated();
}

Without code tags, your program is unreadable. Once we can read it, we won't want to. Waaaaaay too much code here. Reduce it down to enough to demonstrate your problem or question.
