PERL_ANYEVENT_NET_TESTS environment variable not set

cbtshare has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Can I please get some assitance in resolving my issue.I have a a centos 6, 6b -bit, with perl, v5.10.1. I am trying to install aws api module VM::EC2. I need to first install AnyEvent, when I go to install it "cpan AnyEvent", I get the following error:

If only test fails you can skip tests with `cpan force install AnyEvent` and hope evrything else run fine. Anyway message you got seems to me unharmful: that env var `$ENV{PERL_ANYEVENT_NET_TESTS}` was not found and some test were skipped. Just for sake of curiosity you can try to set that env var and watch what change. The main error seems a line after: `t/handle/04_listen.t ....... [METAMOD://AnyEvent::Handle] uncaught error: Connection refused at /root/.cpan/build/AnyEvent-7.12-JRk62y/blib/lib/AnyEvent/Socket.pm line 1000.` L* There are no rules, there are no thumbs.. What should I set the environment variable to? `export $PERL_ANYEVENT_NET_TESTS=` Firstly, that's not how to set an environment variable in the shell. The leading dollar should be omitted, eg: `export PERL_ANYEVENT_NET_TESTS=1` See the bash reference for more on using variables in the shell. However that will not solve the test failure. The message about that variable is merely a diagnostic to tell you that a test is being skipped. It is entirely benign. The tests are actually failling because of `AnyEvent::Handle uncaught error: Connection refused at /root/.cpan/build/AnyEvent-7.12-0C2qsS/blib/lib/AnyEvent/Socket.pm line 1000.` Fix that and you'll be good to go.
