mron has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm running os x 10.11, El Capitan. I'm trying to install the latest version of Slic3r, which requires perl 5.12. El Cap is running 5.18. Where do I find perl 5.12 for the mac? Whats the best way to configure my system with 2 more versions of perl running? What the heck is ActiveState? Thanks

    See Perlbrew
    The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

      ++. I concur.

    The same exact way as 1 version of perl, install in the place of your choosing, like your home directory , with the defaults, like sh Configure -Dprefix=/home/username/perl -des

    If that isn't "best" enough use perlall- build, test and do with all perls, its like better perlbrew with a lot of testing features, and builds and keeps sane global perl installation

    Make it so. Less or more.

    Caution: ActiveState doesn't support older versions of Perl as far as i remember - except you pay for it.

    In other words: You get strange error messages if you try to install some modules via ppm for your older Perl.
