Ok, you probably want to reprimand me for not searching enough (fair enough) and the link you provide seems to answer my second question (how to turn this off) but does anybody know why this feature exists at all?

Why underscores are forbidden in HTTP header names addresses it sort of, but really doesn't get into the initial design rationale. I didn't know about this "feature" until this thread. #11929 First ask yourself `How would I do this without a computer?' Then have the computer do it the same way.	[reply]
