I just tested with Perl 5.24.1 and it still crashed. Interestingly it actually crashed at an earlier reference to the same shared scalar.
That probably means that particular shared scalar -- the only one in your app? -- is just a symptom rather than the cause.
In general, this type of error is caused by something being freed twice; but if it was a general problem with shared vars, it would happen far more frequently and would have probably been found and fixed by now.
Once again, it is something specific to your application, and trying to diagnose it without sight of the code is a fool's errand.
