Well, I make no claims of being one of the learned, but it would be more fair to say, "I know little." That goes for both Perl and PerlMonks history.
I did search for information on PerlMonks (I was a so called "lurker") before I ever made my own account to post my own questions. There was around 6 months between my first post and my second post. I'm stubborn and I usually insist on figuring things out myself, but sometimes the frustration or discovered depth of my own ignorance just gets to be too much for me. It wasn't until shortly after that when I became a semi-regular active member of the community. I did so because I found that I like the Monastery, and I like a lot of the Monks, so it's half learning and half web socializing for me at this point.
While length of community/club membership is certainly a valuable metric that could be used to indicate someone is more likely to know what they are talking about, I don't think that means that newer members opinions aren't valid. In this case, my opinion of "let's all try to remember to mind our manners" isn't even a controversial one, and it's advice that's applicable to just about everything, not just PerlMonks.
Just another Perl hooker - And definitely not the kind with any $class whatsoever.
