Tye beat me to the answer, so i'll just comment on the code.

remeber 
use strict;
use warnings;

$thisdir.'/'.$entrey could be written "$thisdir/$entry"

and you can always
use constant DEBUG => 1 and then
print "what is $this\n" if DEBUG;
to see the value of your variables
