Hi Perlmonk Experts,

I was wondering if someone had experience with DBD::Cassandra. I am planning use Cassandra with perl 5.10.1 (on CentOS) hopefully using DBD::Cassandra - Database driver for Cassandra's CQL3.

I am new to Apache Cassandra and I would really appreciate any hint or help or advice pointing to the right direction, documentation, pitfalls etc. Many Thanks!

    Hello anaras,

    Unfortunately I have no experience with Apache Cassandra nor with DBD::Cassandra but because nobody replied till now I can offer some general hint.

    The first one is about your perl version. centos come with an oldish 5.10 and will probably be better to not use it and to not modify it at all. Install another version under another path (using perlbrew or other simpler tecniques) and choice a more recent one.

    DBD::Cassandra CPAN tester matrix I see good results only for Perl 5.14 and above. So pick a Perl 5.25 and install your needed modules in it.

    The DBD::Cassandra module seems frequently updated with 12 releases since September 2015: this is a good sign. The test suite seems not so big: might be worth to analyze it to see what is really tested.

    Be sure to carefully read the CAVEATS,_BUGS,_TODO part of the documentation.

    It will be kind to report your own opinion after your investigation to enrich the PM wisdom.

    PS i've found this docs just in the rare case you've missed them.

      So pick a Perl 5.25 and install your needed modules in it.
      I don't know whether it really makes a difference, but it's probably safer to pick the Perl 5.24 version.

      Even-numbered versions are considered to be more stable.

      But it is definitely a good idea to pick up a version more recent than 5.10.
