in reply to What is a troll?

Hi trippledubs,

I appreciate this commentary and find the introspection that it instigates to be a fresh, good thing in these musty halls, as I did your other thread. I've upvoted all your posts and downvoted those who bashed you reflexively. I have no doubt that you are "genuine" and your goal is to continue to learn from, and participate in, and improve, the world around you. How can this not be laudable?

This is a teaching monastery devoted to Perl, though, so I feel that you will move forward towards your worthy goals more expeditiously in this corner of the world by turning your focus back to the language itself. You have much to learn, and there is much you can learn here. At the same time, you have much you can teach. Your insightful eye and circumspect thinking about things combine with a facility for allegory, and could be used to bring a new perspective to the young monks you've mentioned, when they come with addled, inexperienced minds to ask a basic question, only to be sometimes overwhelmed with the depth and detail of the old ones' answers. Give what you have and your rewards will multiply, both in worthless XP and in worthy coin, such as meaningfulness of your life.

In other words, let's get back to work, brother!

The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

Thanks! That sounds like a plan. Think I'm giving up recreational internet for awhile. All this bad (fake?) news in the world can make even an optimist like me cynical. Sincerely sorry if I caused any bad feelings. Just wanted to shake things up a little. Probably could have been done a little more respectfully for sure. Fist bump, be back after Easter.
