At least one webserver machine gets hammered by some kind of spider and thus had (or currently, has again) load issues. I thought I had fixed them as of two days ago, but if you're still experiencing the issues, I will look into it again.

G'day haukex,
I can confirm part of what you've said.
I have experienced connectivity problems and slow response times, with www.perlmonks.org,
over the last two days.
Over this period, I've used the site for two or three hours during the late afternoon
and early evening (my timezone is UTC +11 hours).
Here's the issues (as best as I remember them) with my usage over the last couple of days.
-
Around 48 hours ago, I experienced slow response times (one or two minutes for a page to load)
towards the end of that session. I persevered with www.perlmonks.org until I logged out.
-
Around 24 hours ago, I was getting slow response times (maybe five minutes),
as well as connectivity problems ("Remote server not responding."), from the start of the session.
I switched from www.perlmonks.org to www.perlmonks.com: no further problems.
-
Today, I started to log on with www.perlmonks.org.
This took many minutes.
I immediately switched to www.perlmonks.com: no problems so far.
For anyone troubleshooting these types of issues, it's probably helpful to let then know which URL you're using
as well as the timeframe in which the problem was experienced.
[As far as I know, there are six URL possibilities:
'perlmonks.'; followed one of 'com', 'net' or 'org';
and optionally preceded by 'www.'.
I don't know how those are related to physical (or virtual) servers.
If anyone has better information regarding this, please feel free to comment.]

Thanks for confirming, I was hoping it wasn't just me ;-)
I don't know how those are related to physical (or virtual) servers.
All six of the DNS entries you mentioned resolve to the same set of three addresses: 209.197.123.153, 216.92.34.251, and 66.39.54.27 (I think Round-robin DNS is set up). Apparently perlmonks.pair.com only resolves to the first of those three. I was probably using www.perlmonks.org earlier, but I don't know which of those addresses it was resolving to.

FWIW I experienced timeout/connection reset with all three domais ( .org/.net/.com ) around 2017-03-21 17:23:50 PST
