The Annual Linux Showcase (in Oakland Nov 5-10) is offering free technical session registrations (if you hurry, cutoff is Monday -- tomorrow). They have several slots for "Birds of a Feather Sessions" and I'd like to schedule one for perlmonks. From their page:

The BoFs can be scheduled in the evening on Wed-Fri (Nov 7,8&9).

So, would anyone be interested in attending an informal perlmonks BoF meeting on one of these nights?
Any preference for which night I schedule this for?

I'd be willing and available to make an appearance on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 ;D (given more assurance, and turnout, and details...), and hopefully, I'll make the silicon valley perl mongers meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 8-2, 2001

A few questions though, what's going to go on? how much $$? food?(allowed and/or $$?)

    Well blakem,

As someone who will be checking out the Linux Showcase, I would love to try and make a PerlMonks BoF!

I just got word back from the linuxshowcase organizers... seems that anyone can drop by a BoF.....

If you'd like to schedule one, just let + me know! Certainly, all are welcome to the BOFs, regardless of how much +or how little they've paid.
So, now its just a matter of actually picking a day.... The intersection of the BoF days with the free tech-session days is 'Thursday, Friday' I have one no-vote for Friday, along with a general feeling that for some, a Friday night might be too precious to spend on a pm gathering. So, at this moment Thursday evening November 8th is the most probable date. I'll wait a week or so before I make it official.

Its official... There will be a perlmonks BoF (an informal get together) in Oakland on Thursday, November 8th from 8-9pm. This is part of the Annual Linux Showcase, but you don't have to be registered to attend the BoF. Everyone in Northern California is encouraged to attend. Hope to see you there.

/msg me if you are interested in going or have any questions

      Where?

i looked at the site, but can't find the actual location anywhere

      .
hmmm.... why whould you need to know that? ;-)

If you follow the hastily named local transportation link you'll see this message:

All conference sessions and exhibits will be held at the:

        Oakland Marriott City Center
        1001 Broadway
        Oakland, CA 94607
        Toll-free Phone: 1-800-228-9290
        Local Phone: 1-510-451-4000
        Fax: 1-510-835-3466

The marriott site has a map of the area as well.

The BoF is in the "California" room, which is on the third floor of the hotel.
