Just as an extension, can I use this with a named sort sub? I expect so, but I'll have to go off and experiment.

    Sure, but you can't use the nice syntax anymore:

    sub numerically { $a <=> $b } say for sort_hash(\&numerically, %hash);
    ($q=q:Sq=~/;[c](.)(.)/;chr(-||-|5+lengthSq)`"S|oS2"`map{chr |+ord }map{substrSq`S_+|`|}3E|-|`7**2-3:)=~y+S|`+$1,++print+eval$q,q,a,

      well you don't need the braces

      say for sort_hash \&numerically, %hash ;

      and this works too

      say for sort_hash {numerically} %hash ;
