toohoo has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello dear PerlMonks

I'm searching for a whatsnew.txt or changes.txt for a concrete perl version in the downloaded package (portable version). I guess I only do oversee something. May someone please point me a hint?

bes regards and thanks in advance, Thomas

The release notes in general are at http://strawberryperl.com/releases.html. For example, for strawberry-perl-5.26.1.1-64bit-portable.zip, they are here. AFAICT they are not contained in the ZIP archive itself, although the archive does contain a file "win32/Strawberry Perl Release Notes.url" that points to the correct URL.

Update: The archive also contains the usual perldelta at perl/lib/pods/perldelta.pod, although that is just for the general Perl release and not specific to Strawberry Perl.

      Hello haukex,

this was an additional hint, I did find everything there

Thanks to you and best regards, Thomas

Hi toohoo, I don't know about Strawberry Perl, but the changes in the Perl version you are using compared to the previous version are always to be found with $ perldoc perldelta. There's also a Changes file in each distribution, and you can find more deltas on line at perldelta (current version) and index-history (index to all versions).

    Hope this helps!

update: haukex beat me to it, as usual :-P

The way forward always starts with a minimal test.

      Hello 1nickt,

this was what I'm was searching for. The command did run also under Windows and did show the changes.

Many thanks and have a nice day, Thomas
