rsFalse has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

Hello.
I want to try running my program on different versions: 5.8, 5.14, 5.20, 5.26, etc. But I have only one perl at my PC. How can I easily do that?
Maybe you know online IDEs with different perl versions?

Note sure about online, but I use perlbrew to be able to quickly run a script on many different versions of Perl. On Windows, there's stevieb's berrybrew (on GitHub). Update: There's also plenv (I think this is the appropriate repo).

In addition to what haukex said, if you put your code ( or at least the reusable parts of it) into module and put it on CPAN, the cpantesters will run the code on a variety of systems/perl and tell you about the test results.

For an online solution to testing your code across multiple perl versions look no further than Travis.

"...different versions... only one perl... online IDEs..."

Once upon a time i made a decision:

    karls-mac-mini:monks karl$ perlbrew list 5.14.2threads perl-5.16.2 perl-5.16.3 perl-5.17.7 perl-5.18.0 perl-5.18.1 perl-5.18.2 perl-5.18.2threads perl-5.20.0 perl-5.20.0threads perl-5.22.1-threads * perl-5.24.1threads karls-mac-mini:monks karl$ perlbrew switch perl-5.18.0 karls-mac-mini:monks karl$ perlbrew list 5.14.2threads perl-5.16.2 perl-5.16.3 perl-5.17.7 * perl-5.18.0 perl-5.18.1 perl-5.18.2 perl-5.18.2threads perl-5.20.0 perl-5.20.0threads perl-5.22.1-threads perl-5.24.1threads

And because i'm outdated i don't trust anything online ;-)

See also this and many other stuff i wrote about this tool.

Minor update: Fixed wrong link. Thanks hippo.

    Regards, Karl
