With anything in life there are likely to be things you don't understand. If you read a manual, or anything and you don't understand a term or concept it's up to the reader to go and do the required work in order to understand. Practice and research.

Look, I’m with you. Self sufficiency is a good thing. But if the answer to every problem is RTFM, what do we need SoPW for? And if there isn’t a manual, we could just direct people to go read the code. The answers are all there in the code if only people are willing to put in the effort, right?

By your own admission you didn't read the documentation. Sometimes the answer to the question is as straight forward as telling the person that they have to do something outlined in the documentation, which I linked to. Nobody claims the answer to "every problem is RTFM". Here I suggest you take the time to read the documentation in question, and learn the basics of the tools you're trying to use.
