On some of our VMS servers, we are stuck with Perl 5.8, with no way to upgrade because there hasn't been any newer Perl version for that version of the operating system.

      Yes, probably, you're welcome to laugh as I would if it were about someone else ;), but that's not my choice. And BTW, these VMS servers are used for managing a 35-million customer base in a tier-one telecommunication operator. We have plans to move the application to Linux/Cassandra, but I'll probably reach retirement age before the porting is completed.

      And it could be worse than VMS. MSWin, for example. :-)

        PS: Seriously, the OP didn't mention "why", and very often people were just too lazy/unorganized to upgrade their legacy systems.
