I apologize for the delay. I got sidetracked and when I went to test, failed to get the serial port on my Windows vm to act correctly. I'll keep trying today.

No problem I know how that is.... mine failed a few times before setting it correctly in the code I have posted in this message. I also had to set the com ports differently to by looking to see which com port the arduino was using and then hard coded that into the perl code	[reply]
