PerlMonks got mention in Perl Weekly and question about single page applications

Perl300 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

First, I think most of you might already know that PerlMonks got a mention in the Perl Weekly issue #356. Though I think the discussions link was not to the SoPW but to the discussions about PM website :-) Nevertheless, congratulations to all who are putting efforts to keep PM going.

Next, I have question. There was also mention of the book "Single Page Application with Perl Dancer". What I want to know is:

Has anyone bought/read this book?

I would greatly appreciate your reviews or a link to where I can find reviews of the book. I didn't understand much from the link provided in newsletter.

Are there any other learning materials I can refer to for creating single page web applications using perl?

Are there any other learning materials I can refer to for creating single page web applications using perl? There are many resources out there. The trick here is that tools and best practices in this space evolve very quickly and the single page web application in this context is 70% JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, client side DB and payload packaging stuff and 30% RESTy backend Perl. There are some printed resources but they were out of date soon after being published. Examples include Building iPhone Apps with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and Building Android Apps With HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Mojolicious and Catalyst are also available as backends. Online tutorials abound on this topic (though usually in its component pieces) and it's the best place to dig. I could not find (I barely tried but I did try :P) the tutorial/walk-through that came to mind of a couple of guys building a one-page interface to Facebook with HTML5 that was a lot better than Facebook's own app and HTML. The best resource I have found for riding the wave here is the Frontend Focus mailing list. I am so far behind on my own reading and skills that I'm no help here right now. Good luck! Haven't read the book, but I'm taking a 30 hour class in Angular 6 on Udemy for only $10.00. I think I'm about 1/3 into it, really like it so far. It's also a great intro to Typescript. I would pay the $10 bucks again just for the Emmet plugin tip, which after using it for about 5 minutes you won't want to live without. I'm sure in the course Perl is not the taught backend, but it's interchangeable. One of the problems with SPAs is that they don't index into search engines as well, but for the non-indexed portions of a site or an internal web app, can't beat em.	[reply]
