Just chiming in to agree with most of what everyone else said. I like 70/72 as well but it is quickly not enough with nested indention; even 80 isn't enough to my eye sometimes. I let the autoformatting do its job and correct it where I think it's more legible on one line.

I also don't care when it comes to raw strings if they are 500+ characters long. I never have to read them so legibility doesn't come into it.
