No I did not challenge you.

That was me! :-)
MediaWiki was indeed prototyped in Perl. It was abandoned quickly because the performance was too awful. Again reinforcing everything I've been saying.
Has anyone seen that source code? It probably has backtracking regexes all over the place or something. Since when is PHP faster than properly deployed Perl? I know you don't like my little theories but wiki was coincidentally "replaced" during a time of extreme php evangelism and constant vicious attacks against THE "competition" for their commerce: an established free open perl community. Are we sure some zend operatives didn't talk wiki out of perl for the sheer profit of market share? Corporate espionage and sabotage are very serious businesses even when I'm being too suspicious of coincidences. (Like the scam to give away slow versions of PHP that you could pay to make faster with expensive hosting services.)
Even if Wikipedia absolutely HAD to be translated into PHP3 (or was it 4?) because Perl 5 sucked 18 years ago and mod_perl was way slower than mod_php at the time (really? lol) the point of mentioning it is that Wikipedia was indeed prototyped in Perl. I often hear Perl is good for doing that sort of thing rapidly. They should have fixed the wiki and stuck with Perl instead of being recruited by an evangelical pseudo-intellectual cult of rabid vulture capitalist carpetbaggers obsessed with spreading their ridiculously bad copy of Perl:
"We founded Zend roughly two and a half years after starting on PHP with the mandate to provide backing and solutions for companies using PHP, and also to proliferate the usage of PHP around the world."-Zeev
Why in the world would anyone want to work with or take cues from some nameless, error tossing screed factory with your attitude, biases, and practices from the 1990s?
Because the 90s spawned tons of cool technology that is still completely relevant, one of which this site is all about, and, as you know, still included with every new Apple computer! As for my namelessness this site graciously allows it so whatever. I AM a screed factory with attitude and biases but I don't mind my errors being corrected either. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and all your work for Perl!
Speaking of the world, I can't help but notice that our favorite American programming language has been under constant attack by an axis of evil international forces from Canada, Israel (PHP), Holland (Python), Japan (Ruby) and Russia (How does one guy named Igor beat the entire (U.S.A.) Apache Software Foundation? Cool name though...).
Ahh the fun never ends: www.eschrade.com/page/why-is-fastcgi-w-nginx-so-much-faster-than-apache-w-mod_php/
