I believe that the acid test is that if you explain your position carefully in words chosen for the intended audience you might get better results. But if you still get bad results - you are either wrong or need to understand other people more. And if you didn't even take that step, then this is a third possible way it's your mistake and probably the most likely in this case.
Updated: And of course there's nothing wrong with some people disagreeing with you - fact of life!
