I've been using UltraEdit on Win...

It has color syntax highlighting and supports macros, block editting, ftp editting, and buch of other goodies (spell checker included). You can get it at any tucows mirror.

    Do you know of a similar editor for Unix based systems? Vi is cool but I find myself typing loads of extra i's and a's when I have to use anything ielse :-)

      Try NEdit for XWindows. It has syntax highlighting, macro programming, and more. I use vi if I'm stuck at a command-line, and NEdit otherwise.

      I will admit, I came from a windows background, but live in Linux-land now. NEdit has a Windows-ish feel to it, which I like.
