Yes, any literal character that is not qualified in some way — either by an immediately-following metacharacter or by a pattern modifier such as /i (which makes a match case-insensitive) — must be an exact match.

I find Regexp::Debugger very convenient when trying to find why a regular expression matches or does not match.
