BrianDStark has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I have a script that I run on a Windows 10 Box that opens a telnet session in a CentOS 7 Linux box. I am trying to run the script connecting to Linux Fedora 27 (running on same Windows box), I verified that telnet works using the Windows Telnet Client and logging into Fedora, but when I run my script it times out trying to open a telnet session. Is there a known issue with the Fedora Kernel 4.20 Telnet server? The identical script runs fine when connecting to CentOS 3.10. Hoping its something simple like the login prompt is different. Brian

    Hello BrianDStark,

What version of Net::Telnet are you running? Why are you using Telnet, is there a specific reason? The package has bugs and also it is not maintained for the last 6 years (Net::Telnet/issues).

    Looking forward to your update.

well then, why don't you verify it? It's very likely that your diagnosis is correct. Also check this Troubles with Telnet module asked a few weeks ago.

Irrelevant blabber for fellowmonks: one good reason for me using telnet is the name, it's so "war games"-like. Ssh, on the other hand, it's like wardialing without the girl (or boy, whatever). Yikes ssshhhh. But unless you are making a movie, ssh is the way to go.

Irrelevant quiz for dinosaurs: uucp - what's in the acronym?

Ah, yes. I remember using that. Back in the Cretaceous Period, I believe. What a memory! :-)
