    We want to make Perl as accessible to people from other programming languages as possible. Many people ALREADY find the sigils a major hindrance. Why should we they also have to learn Perl's "weird" and different mechanism for method calls, too? Perhaps there's a reason lots of other languages do it that way. And this has nothing to do with a MicroSoft-ish agenda, if you knew Larry at all. He's a linguist, and he's trying to make Perl an easier language to speak for foreigners.
