No worries about this hanging around for a long time ... it's for the school website, which gets re-written every year. I'll see about posting the bloated/simple versions of my script - I'm going into version 2 right now, so maybe in a couple weeks ....

Don't really agree with your point on inheritance - Perl's use is frustrating, but it can be a great power tool. The ability to tweak something at the top of a hierarchy, and have that make mass changes is appealing - but only in larger projects that you've actually bothered to document. Otherwise it gets a bit ridiculous, I concur.
