True, the use of LWP::Simple makes things very easy - However, the use of the combination of LWP::UserAgent and HTTP::Request gives you a great deal more control over the request, returning HTTP headers and content by the same method.

This can be quite advantageous and has most recently allowed the WWW::SimpleRobot module to be rewritten to make only a single request per page when crawling a web site (rather than the two requests it had previously been making using LWP::Simple - a request with the HEAD method for the page headers and the GET method for the page content) - The result was a considerable increase in module speed.

To my mind there needs to be a very good reason as to why to use LWP::Simple in place of LWP::UserAgent and HTTP::Request rather than the other way around.
