cybermack72 has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I'm trying to write a script (that will run on Win32) to read individual newsgroups and search for pdf files, hence avoiding all headers and messages dealing with small farm animals and vaseline...(-: I've started the script and have only found code/modules that will read in the available newsgroups from a particular server. Any ideas on where I can find a module or some doc's........?

How about a working application that's stable, robust, and tested? usenet binary harvester will allow you to collect binaries off newsgroups and filter by extension (and maybe with other filters I've not used). Plus, it's free software written in Perl, so you can hack it, learn from it, or mutilate and spindle it to your heart's content.

The first place I'd search is CPAN for news modules. Clicking that link will bring up many options from which you can choose. News::Article may be what you're looking for, but I've never used it.

If things get any worse, I'll have to ask you to stop helping me.
