This month's Web Techniques magazine is Randal's last. His farewell can be found here.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've certainly learnt a lot from his articles over the last few years and just wanted to say thanks for the effort he put into providing solutions to problems I never knew I had? :)

Reading the editor's letter in that issue, it rather sounds as though Web Techniques has left merlyn (and a number of other authors) by deciding to recast itself as a new and different magazine.

Sad, but not entirely unexpected. The web isn't as cool as it was a few years back, and some of the articles were getting repetitive.

I learned quite a bit from studying merlyn's early columns, and looked forward to finding a new one each month to study. We'll just have to get that fix elsewhere. Fortunately there is an elsewhere.

You should definitely compare this letter with the original version which got a bit edited. In fact, one of my future ideas was to do a "diff" between the column archives of the magazine publisher against my originals, to see how much had actually change on my 140+ columns for the many magazines.

And while WT has now ended, be sure to check out my other two ongoing columns: Linux Magazine and SysAdmin magazine.

As always, if you have a column idea, write me, and get credit in print!

I've never read Web Techniques, but I have learned alot from the unedited versions of Randal's articles on his personal website (linked above). They are a great help to anyone (newbie or experienced)

As long as he doesn't bring that down, we'll all be okay!

That's a real shame. Randal was the reason I got the magazine every month. The columns taught me a lot and were fun to read. No matter how much fluff they included about B2B or Wireless Web Application Portal Vapormabobs you were sure to get something useful in his column.
