    Yep. Reputation is the sum of the positive and negative votes your writeup has received.
      It is not precisely the sum of them. Experience points are gained (and lost) by different means. One of them is by people voting on your writeups. For the full rules see the Voting/Experience System.

      Update: Huge brain fart. I read "experience" where cciula said "reputation". The reputation of a writeup is the sum of the votes it has received. I'm sorry.
