Reason, that I see (entirely speculative), that root says you've got a reply, is because root somehow implies an automatic reply, where what you're proposing is that a /msg be faked, to appear as it is coming from the user who replied to your message... on the other hand, there is no good reason.

From what I think I know, this is a patch pmdevers can't write (it's in one of the *.pm's)

I think vroom does this in HTML.pm, in sub opNew, where as for JavaJunkies, I attempted to override the `new' opcode, and do it there, but that didn't work ;)

update: rchiav says below: It could just be in the insert nodemethod for the note nodetype., which makes me wonder what a "nodemethod" is ;D but seriously, rchiav, nodemethods are a feature of the version 1 (pre-alpha at the moment) e2 engine, and perlmonks is running on 0.8, so I don't think it's there (actually I know it's not there, and I am almost sure it's in HTML.pm)
