Between the personal nodelet, arranging favorites on home nodes and web browser bookmarking features I can't really see the need for it.

Personally, I find my browser bookmarks the easiest to use since they're available at the top of every window, I can create folders and subfolders, and don't have to scroll four pagefuls down to find the top of my personal nodelet. Yes, I know I can move the position of the personal nodelet around, but it is the least used of my nodelets so I'd rather keep it at the bottom.

I do agree with your point that the current personal nodelet system is not very intuitive to use. Perhaps some improvements could be made in that area.
