While I don't have time to fully explain it, you can actually use prototypes(bleck) to avoid the weirdness in $a and $b (ughhh) for 5.6 and above....

  my ($a,$b) = @_;
  $a <=> $b

Actually, just scoping $a and $b to boo() is enough. I didn't realize they were passed in through @_. :-) ------ We are the carpenters and bricklayers of the Information Age. Don't go borrowing trouble. For programmers, this means Worry only about what you need to implement.	[reply]
