I did some more digging around on fatbrain's site and found this which implies that the payback thing is going away for fatbrain but bn.com will offer thier own.

actually, bn bought fatbrain over a year ago. i suspect they are just getting around to rolling their site into the bn site. i think you would have noticed some changes over the time if you'd been aware of it. for one, i've noticed that they seem to have fewer items in stock since the acquisition. nothing against bn per se, but i miss the old fatbrain too.

I received their email this a.m. also. Change continues.

I have over a dozen of those FatBrain hats, and used to shop in their past life retail "Computer Literacy Bookstore" in San Jose, CA. It was easy to spend too much time in there.

I comparison shopped a basket of books last Oct, Amazon vs FatBrain. FatBrain won on price. That wasn't always true, but often was. They'll be missed eh?

FYI -- Try bookpool.com

They are even better priced than fatbrain was! The only way I order anywhere else is if bookpool.com doesn't have it.

Prices are really good and service is excellent as well. Barnes&Noble have screwed up my orders once too often already.
