slackerman has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am kinda of new to this so ... I have already downloaded the latest version of Perl from Perl.com and it does not come with the PPM utlity. Is there anywhere I can get it without having to re-download Active Perl? Or is there anywhere I can get modules that do not need unpackaging?

Yeah you can download PPM from CPAN. It even installs on Linux

I would recommend the CPAN module if you are on a *nix based system. It's not as convienent (e.g. you can still have (infrequent) compilation or dependancy issues), but CPAN is a standard module. It also is fairly easy to use.

You didn't say what OS you are on. If Windows, I would recommend using the ActiveState version specifically because PPM does make installing modules so user-friendly. Just my opinion.

Update: I had no idea you could install PPM for use with other distributions of Perl. ++gellyfish

If you're using FreeBSD, NetBSD or OpenBSD, you can install some Perl modules from their Ports/Packages collections. Other operating systems may include Perl modules within their packaging systems too - you don't mention what you're using.
