in reply to You have moved into a dark place.
This is my dark place, where's yours?
Everybody needs a dark place to put links to nodes and such so they can cut and paste when responding to people. Sort of a node'ed user page and scratchpad rolled into one.
If 'dark place' could be filtered from Newest Nodes or Super Search it could be the personal filesystem monks have been looking for.
For example:
I could add a comment to this node with my common responses ready for cut-n-paste:
[cpan://Date::Manip] [http://www.perlmonks.org/index.pl?node_id=108949&user=zengargoyle|see + my scratchpad] ...your cut-n-paste needs here...
I could craft a lengthy answer to a common problem, post it in a comment to this node, add it's link to the 'cut-n-pase' node and be set.
I can find all of my dark place nodes by searching on 'dark place' and voila! all of my refrence nodes on one page, but each is directly linkable.
I've been playing with the E2 engine and thinking about the recent discussions on the personal nodelet. We really need a new nodetype (clone of the current discussion type model) that only the author_user can reply to, and that doesn't show up in normal node searches or Newest Nodes but is reachable via links. If the display was overriden to a depth of 1 it would be like a filesystem, click a comment to see the comments of the comments... Give every user one dark place linked off of their user page.
The 'personal nodelet' could be a list view of configurable depth of your dark place.
So the question for Perl Monks Discussion is how hard would it be to do this with a new nodetype
