losing spaces in text line

chrisbarton has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I am now losing text spaces when I pass my lines of text to an email.
When I do:

print "$requests";
[download]

I get:
Date : 2002-03-26 16:46:00

but when I send it to MAIL:

print MAIL "$requests";
[download]

In the email the line is:
Date : 2002-03-26 16:46:00
ie all the extra spaces have been removed.
any idea why this is?

There is nothing inherent in SMTP that does this, so you will have to provide more info. What does your open line look like, what builds $requests, what mods are you importing/using? Things like that will make this much more solvable.	[reply]
