Not true. Not only does Rex(Wrecks)' solution work, but if you add (for example) '.PL' to the PATHEXT environmental variable in Win2k (and, I assume, XP) then you can just type 'script' without the '.pl', and it will execute it.
(Of course I still (mentally) associate the '.pl' extension with the old Perl libraries; my executable Perl scripts end in '.plx'.)
Update: For Win9x machines, pl2bat (as suggested by jmcnamara) is a much better solution.
