Tk on MacOS X

jonknee has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I spent this afternoon trying to delve into the world of Perl/Tk. Mission one – getting it installed. I downloaded it from CPAN, and installed it via terminal.app. The make test command failed. Every part of it. No scripts using Tk work (obviously).... I was wondering if any Monks have installed Tk on Mac OS X and have any wisdom for me. I have already installed X Windows and booted it up with XDarwin. It's probably something simple!

Do you actually want Tk, or just a GUI interface? If it's just a GUI, grab CamelBones from Sourceforge and have at it. (It's an interface to Cocoa, the native OS X GUI. Very nice)	[reply]

Wow. Very cool. It's actually better than Tk for my use – I don't have to boot up X windows. Too bad it's not quite as sophisicated but then again, im not good enough to make use of even 5% of Tk so CamelBones will suit me just fine ::grins::	[reply]

Not quite as sophisticated? Think not. :) You also have full access to the Interface Builder to lay out your interface. So far I've found it both easier and more powerful than Tk to use for building GUI interfaces.	[reply]
