Ok, so most people don't seem hostile to the basic idea i.e. it would be nice to be able to see when people have updated their home node. The basic objections that I can see here are:

1. Too much clutter on screen
2. Too much trouble to implement

So how about this:

We create a new page similar to newest nodes, but it only has links to recently changed home pages. When you sumbit a change to your home page, you are given a check box that says "add me to the list". If you check this box then your page would be listed for the next twenty four hours.

This would allow anybody who's not interested to ignore it. It would also allow each user to decide if a change they have made to their home node is "significant". If someone goes to the bother of regularly updating their home node then they probably want people to see it (otherwise why bother?).

This new proposal seems to me to be:

1. relatively easy to implement
2. easily ignorable for those who are not interested
3. leaves control of whether to publish with the monk who owns the node
