How can I help?

Monks,

I have always been a believer of 'learning by doing'. Since I would like to continue learning, and so far I use Perl only for fun (perlgolf), I need a real project. I have just been writing little convenience scripts so far, but now would like to contribute something back to the community. So my question is, how do I get involved in making Perl better? Is there a wishlist for modules somewhere? I searched here and at CPAN, but couldn't find anything. Also, it might be easier/more beneficial to help out on a project that's already underway. Is there a 'help wanted' site, then? My training is scientific (astronomy), if that matters.

There is a module list (currently in beta form) on http://rt.cpan.org. You could also look for abandonware (software or module), and take over. As for help wanted, try http://sourceforge.net. `-- perl -pew "s/\b;([mnst])/'$1/g"`	[reply]

See How You (Yes You!) Can Get Involved for one good way to help. I'll also second BUU's suggestion of starting a project on SourceForge (or Savannah for the paranoid). It's a great way to learn while giving something back. As for project ideas check Where the inspiration comes from ?. This may be blasphemous, but learning new languages is also a great way to gain a broader perspective on programming and can help you better understand Perl. Update: There's a good article over at perl.com on Becoming a CPAN Tester with CPANPLUS for the interested.	[reply]

find the source! Or you could check out jobs.perl.com (or something along those lines) as some of them require volunteers	[reply]
