Perl 5 won't immediately go away when Perl 6 is released. I'm not avoiding important features because I don't know if I'll have time to revise them. I'm in favor of incremental maintenance anyway.

Besides that, I suspect that smart people like Rafael will be making good progress on B::Parrot. Bytecode's much easier to manipulate than raw code.
