    Is the process running something you wrote, or some system utility? Commonly, kill INT, $pid; will terminate the child, but that depends on the $SIG{INT} handler ( and you must wait or handle $SIG{CHLD} in the parent, too).

    Can you be more specific?
    How are you launching the process in question?
    Are you using fork()? If so, take a look at kill().

    Under what operating system? Do you know the process-id, or just the name? How was the process started? What kind of process is it?
