So, I posted my first question to SoPW today, and I got a helpful response; thanks, virtualsue! Later, I posted a reply to the response, but it hasn't appeared. What has appeared instead is a line saying

Some notes below your chosen depth have not been shown here.

But I don't remember having chosen a depth anywhere, and I can't find anywhere to do that. Is there such a place?

Plus, my depth of what? Level of 'Re:'? reputation? something else?

I'm assuming that my response didn't show up because it was one of notes below this depth, but maybe there's another reason it didn't show up?

I've looked through the FAQ and all the documentation I can find, so a link to somewhere this is documented would be just as helpful and appreciated as a direct answer.

Thanks for helping a confused initiate.

    Go to your home node and choose to edit your user settings. There is an option to change note depth there.

    use Your::Head;

      Thanks. I did see the Note Configuration section, but I assumed (wrongly, as it turns out) that because there wasn't anything in the boxes the settings weren't having any effect.

      Of course, I didn't actually, um, try it... which usually helps.

    Related note: I've often thought the "Some notes below your chosen depth" should also be a link. Anyone else agree?

    Makeshifts last the longest.

      Currently you can click on the title of the node above the "Some notes below your chosen depth have not been shown" and see the next few posts. This isn't obvious though and it would be better if it was linked as you suggest.

      Another thing to consider is possibly having a secondary node depth, so if you click on the "notes below your chosen depth" it'll show the next, say 10 posts instead of whatever your primary node depth is set to.

        I know you can click at the note's title. It just isn't quite as convenient - particularly, though that is a rare case, if you need to scroll back to get there from the bottom of a long note.

        I really like that secondary node depth idea!

    Note also that you can see lower-level nodes by clicking on the title of the last visible node, thus reparenting the node tree. Just click on the title of virtualsue's "Re: Re: Re:" response and you'll see what I mean.
