blakem, I'm happy for your selection of a company that seem to do the right thing. XP is a pretty powerful tool for developing applications of various sizes correctly and on schedule. It's especially a good choice for a small shop consisting of a mere dozen Perl hackers, for example.
Don't let your spirit down by the apparent lack of devotion to this new way of doing programming. At the place I work we have only recently started to adopt strategies similar to XP, although not very many would admit it. You should allow some more time for the new philosophy to sink in.
If you've never worked in an XP environment, my advice to you would be to learn on the job from your peers who have had at least some experience. Complement this practical on-the-job-training with a moderate amount of reading (this
site for example). This is a powerful learning mix and I'm sure will help you through.
