Search: If I type in a word that happens to be a perlmonk's name, why does it only give me their profile page, and not a list of all the matches?

The Input Box: I wish the input box was a little wider and taller. It feels a little cramped, especially when I have to paste in a lot of code.

Thank you for listening.

It's a feature. If you want all matches, then add a nonsense "word" to your search. For example malaga askwifja will find all nodes with "malaga" in their titles (since there are no nodes with "askwifja" in their titles).

A feature to make this easier is probably forthcoming. everything2.org has an "ignore exact matches" checkbox. I'm leaning more toward a link at the top of the page that says "list all nodes with similar titles".

Update: Simple search was updated a while ago to use "full text search" in hopes of reducing DB load. Unfortunately it makes simple search less useful (you can't search for tcp in node titles, for example, since "full text search" doesn't index 3-letter words or shorter; and you can't search for partial words) so we will probably be backing that out when we get a chance.

Update2: Simple search has been updated again. And it will eventually be updated again. However, a good approach is to just repeat the word you are searching on twice. So search for "malaga malaga".

That's true, I can use Super Search, but why is the regular search that way, I wonder?

I'll check out the user customization, thanks.
The regular "search" (which really shouldn't be called that) only looks in node titles.

      Makeshifts last the longest.

Since no one has mentioned the "input box" part of your discussion, I'll briefly note that you can resize it on an individual basis using CSS. Examples can be found in We Stylin'! and PerlMonks CSS Examples.

Thanks, I guess the Super Search is the way to go when I need to narrow things down. The Simple search is hard to wade through for some words.

The first reply to this did mention about user configurations, but thanks, i'll give it a try.
