divinus has asked for the wisdom of the Perl Monks concerning the following question:

I can modify and understand Perl fairly well but Im new to writing my own scripts and thus am having some difficulty in doing so. Right now I am working on a Perl script that would allow me to have a page where I would create a link to every folder and file, starting at a particular file. The purpose of this would simply allow the user to cycle through a particular folder to help him find exactly what he needs. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

    Eh, why bother? Most webservers do that by default.

      To amplify on what Abigail said, you may need to put an .htaccess file in your directories with the line Options +Indexes to get the webserver to allow Indexes. Some servers have this set by default, others you need to explicitly enable it.

    What have you got so far? Have you got some rough pseudo-code written to demonstrate the architecture of your system? It's a good idea to show what you've got so far so we can offer specific help, and to show that you have given the problem some thought before asking here.
