Definitely use this opportunity to learn SQL. You don't even have to install a database, you could use db files and DBD::SQLite. Personally, I use MySQL, but don't rule out PostgreSQL.

Also, check out Migrating a 1NF table to multiple 2NF tables, the topic might be a bit over your head, but it includes the layouts for tables that i use to store my MP3 catalog (just use the 1NF table for now - diagram 1). Additionally, the last example at the HTML::Template Tutorial includes a CGI program that lists and sorts a MP3 catalog. Last, the code at Save MP3 Tag's to Database with SPOPS and Re: SPOPS compared with Alzabo can be used to create the catalog.
